Vol. 270 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Wexford Storm Damage.

464.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will make money available immediately for the purpose of rectifying recent storm damage at Poulshone and Kilmore Quay, County Wexford.

The Commissioners of Public Works have no funds at their disposal from which grants can be made for rectifying storm damage. Their powers in regard to coast protection which are derived from the Coast Protection Act, 1963 enable them to carry out protection schemes specifically only where "lands are being progressively damaged by the continuing encroachment of the sea as distinct from occasional or abnormal storms". In February, 1973. Wexford County Council submitted a proposal under the Act for coast protection works at Poulshone. In view of the many prior proposals which have yet to be investigated it cannot be said when the Poulshone proposal will be reached for formal examination under the Act.

The Commissioners are not responsible for repairs at Kilmore Quay.
