Vol. 270 No. 9

Anti-Discrimination (Pay) Bill, 1974: First Stage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to ensure equal treatment, in relation to certain terms and conditions of employment, between men and women employed on like work.
—(Minister for Labour.)

Tuesday next.

When will it be circulated?

It should be circulated this afternoon or tomorrow.

Or maybe the day after.

If the members of the Opposition are worried about legislation coming into this House, hold your breath, because over the next few weeks you will be choked with legislation.

May I say that Deputy Haughey's question is to the point. That legislation should now be introduced into this House under this title suggesting that this country is a repressive regime is a retrograde step on the part of the Government.

There will be ample scope to debate this Bill in detail on Second Stage.

I have never seen such annoyance on the faces of an Opposition at seeing a Government doing its work.

Second Stage ordered for Tuesday, 5th March, 1974.
