Vol. 270 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - General Amenity Areas.

8.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if, in view of the action of the Office of Public Works and the Department of Lands in making some of their properties available to the public as general amenity areas, he will make similar arrangements in relation to his Department's properties.

There are none of my Department's properties which would be made available for use as general amenity areas to the public.

Did the Minister say there were none?

Surely Bord na Móna comes under the Minister's jurisdiction. Would they not have properties that could be used for public amenity?

I would not think they would be suitable.

The Minister's predecessor brought us on a tour of them, and I found it most enjoyable.

I shall certainly do the same if any Deputies are interested in going. I think the most suitable ones in my Department as far as public amenity areas are concerned are the airport buildings which are available to the public, and, perhaps, you could include the general surrounds of airports. However, the Deputy will appreciate that for security reasons this would not be an appropriate time to have these made available.
