Vol. 270 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - University Merger.

58.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the proposed merger between UCD and TCD.

Mr. R. Burke

The whole question of the future organisation of university education in Dublin is still under consideration in conjunction with the recommendations contained in the Higher Education Authority's Report on University Reorganisation and with the views which have been received from the various interested parties.

A question was answered. I did not hear the answer. I have enough interest in it to ask you, a Cheann Comhairle, to ask the Minister to read the answer again.

Up to now Question Time has gone on in an orderly fashion. I hope that will continue with the co-operation of Deputies. Has the Deputy a relevant supplementary question.

If I hear the answer I may have a relevant supplementary question.

Mr. R. Burke

I am prepared to facilitate the Deputy. The whole question of the future organisation of university education in Dublin is still under consideration in conjunction with the recommendations contained in the Higher Education Authority's Report on University Reorganisation and with the views which have been received from the various interested parties.

Apart from the Higher Education Authority, has the Minister been in communication on this matter with the universities concerned?

Mr. R. Burke

I have received a deputation from the heads of the universities discussing these and other matters.

At their own request?

Mr. R. Burke

At their own request.
