Vol. 270 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waste Paper Imports.

1.

asked the Taoiseach the total quantity of waste paper imported into the country for the most recent 12-months' period for which figures are available; and the cost per ton delivered.

In the 12-months' period August, 1972, to July, 1973, the total quantity of waste paper imported was 23,434 tons. The cost, as declared for customs purposes, was £16.6 per ton.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary tell me the price paid to local suppliers? He may not have it. I understand that the price is about half that paid for the imported waste paper. It seems a shame, in view of the amount of waste paper that is around the country, that we are importing waste paper.

I have not got that figure. The Deputy might be interested to know that the price I have given to the House is the price computed on the basis that the seller bears the entire cost of freight, insurance and commission, and all other costs and expenses, excluding duty or tax chargeable in the State, incidental to the sale and the delivery of the goods.
