Vol. 270 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Heart Surgery.

40.

asked the Minister for Health if the differences regarding open heart surgery in neo-natal infants between the Mater Hospital and Our Lady's Hospital, Crumlin, Dublin, have been resolved.

I understand that Comhairle na nOspidéal have had under consideration the question of how best the performance of open heart surgery might be organised over the whole range of work in relation to infants, children and adults. As a result, recommendations have been made to the two hospitals named by the Deputy. I understand that the comhairle's recommendations are the subject of discussion between the two hospitals.

Is there any truth in the rumour that this type of surgery has been discontinued while the two hospitals are having their so-called discussions?

I am not so far aware.
