Vol. 270 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Bomb Victims' Compensation.

7.

asked the Minister for Justice if compensation has yet been paid to victims of the Dublin bomb explosions of last year and the preceding years, which resulted in injury to persons and property; and, if so, if the costs will be met from central funds.

As I indicated in Dáil Éireann on Tuesday, 12th February, in the course of my speech on the group of estimates for which I am responsible, a scheme of compensation for personal injuries criminally inflicted has been approved by the Government. I am at present engaged in setting up a tribunal to administer the scheme. Compensation will be payable from State funds.

With regard to damage to property, claims for compensation may be made in the normal way against Dublin Corporation under the criminal injuries code. I have no information as to whether any compensation has yet been awarded on foot of such claims. As to the question of the cost of such compensation being met from central funds, I would refer the Deputy to the answer given by the Minister for Finance to a similar question on 12th February, 1974.
