Vol. 271 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - County Galway School.

4.

asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the special circumstances prevailing on Inishboffin, County Galway, he will agree to the appointment of a second teacher at Inishboffin National School.

5.

asked the Minister for Education if it is proposed to appoint a male teacher as a principal at Inishboffin National School, County Galway.

Mr. R. Burke

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 4 and 5 together.

The number of children attending the school at present is not sufficient for the appointment of an assistant teacher in the normal way. However, it is understood that there are children over four years of age on the island who are not attending school but who would do so if a second teacher were appointed. In the special circumstances and because of the difficulty in attracting teachers to island schools we are in communication with the manager regarding the appointment of a second teacher.
