Vol. 271 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dungarvan Medical Practitioner Service.

32.

asked the Minister for Health if he will take steps to ensure that there will be an adequate general medical practitioner service available in Dungarvan, County Waterford at the weekend; if he is aware of the unsatisfactory situation which exists there at present; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Deputy will be aware that the statutory responsibility in this matter rests with the South-Eastern Health Board. I am advised by the board that they are not aware of any unsatisfactory position regarding the provision of a general practitioner service at week-ends. They have entered into agreements with four medical practitioners for the provision of general medical services in the Dungarvan area. It is a condition of the agreement in each case that the doctor provides services at the week-ends or arranges for their provision by another doctor.
