Vol. 271 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Speed Limit.

93.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the speed limit of 40 mph in operation on the extra-wide dual carriage-way between Long Mile Road and Newlands Cross, Dublin will be revised.

The question as to whether the speed limit of 40 mph on this new section of dual carriageway should be revised is being considered in the course of a review of speed limits in Dublin city and county which is nearing finalisation.

The Minister has been giving me the same reply on his Estimate and to other questions. The signs for 40 miles an hour are still there on the widest dual carriageway in the country. If the local authority will do nothing about it why will the Minister not do something?

Even on very wide roads accidents have been occurring very frequently.

On this stretch?

I am not very anxious to rush into giving a licence to drive more quickly.

There are six and eight lines of traffic travelling on this carriageway.

So what! Accidents occur there just as frequently as anywhere else.

(Interruptions.)

When approximately will this review be completed?

I have been informed that it is nearing completion. I imagine that I will have some definite information within a month.
