Vol. 271 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Science and Technology Policy.

103.

asked the Minister for Finance the present position regarding the Government's policy relating to science and technology.

The Government's policy is to secure the optimum contribution from scientific and technological activity towards economic and social development and the attainment of national goals. A review of such activity directed towards this end and undertaken with the collaboration of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development will be completed shortly, following which I hope to put in train the necessary legislative measures for the introduction of new institutional arrangements for the formulation and implementation of a fully integrated national policy for science and technology.

Could the Minister indicate when we might have the announcement?

Sooner than later.

Whatever that means.

It is even more vague than some of the answers we get.
