Vol. 271 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Land Commission Office.

14.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the Land Commission office in Cork is understaffed; and if he will make arrangements to have at least two inspectors appointed urgently.

(Cavan): I am aware of the position in regard to staffing in the Cork office of the Land Commission and I have already arranged for the early transfer to Cork of an additional inspector. The needs of the office will be borne in mind when recruitment commences following the competition for Land Commission inspectors recently announced by the Civil Service Commission.

Did the Minister say that he was arranging to transfer one inspector?

(Cavan): That is correct.

Is there not likely to be a big backlog as regards subdivision and acquisition? Why have we not got a panel to draw from? If four inspectors went sick would we have to wait for an examination to replace them?

(Cavan): I have arranged for the immediate transfer of one additional inspector. A competition is being held to recruit further Land Commission inspectors to fill vacancies which have accumulated over the years. When these new inspectors are recruited I will have a further look at the position.
