Vol. 271 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Moscow Embassy Rent.

22.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the rent that will be paid in respect of the Irish Embassy in Moscow.

It is not the practice to divulge the amount of rents in such cases without the consent of the lessor. However, I can assure the Deputy that the rental is considered reasonable by Dublin standards.

This is a charge that is placed on the taxpayers and surely we are entitled to that sort of information? What is the rent in relation to Moscow standards as distinct from Dublin standards, which are very low in comparison with most other countries?

The Deputy is engaging in argument.

I am not an expert on rents in Moscow as such but certainly by the standards of what we pay for embassies in most places this is remarkably good value.

Question No. 23.

It should be by their standards.

Question No. 23.

The rent is, from our point of view, entirely satisfactory.

When we reach the Minister's Estimate will we get a breakdown of that?

There is a breakdown in the Book of Estimates. I do not think it gives individual details to that extent.

When will we get the Book of Estimates?
