Vol. 271 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aid To Developing Countries.

23.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the total amount of aid sent by this country to developing countries in the last financial year; and the names of the countries concerned.

The total amount of official development aid, that is, aid from Government sources, during the year ended the 31st March, 1973, was approximately £763,000.

As almost all of this aid was contributed to international organisations which operate their own assistance programmes over a wide range of countries, it is not possible to name any individual countries as recipients of Irish official aid in the year in question.

As is well known, many organisations and individuals in the private and semi-State sector have been contributing money and personal service to the developing world for many years. It is not, however, possible to quantify the total amount of this aid.

While the figure given for official development aid is reasonably accurate, strict application of internationally accepted criteria might result in some slight modification.
