Vol. 272 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Economic Growth Rates.

32.

asked the Minister for Finance the growth rate he expects in the transitional financial period; and if he will relate this to the normal 12-month period.

In the absence of quarterly national accounts, it is possible to prepare estimates of growth rates for the Irish economy only on a calendar year basis. The information requested in the first part of the Deputy's question is not, therefore, available. In relation to the second part, I indicated in my Budget speech that, as a result of budgetary measures, the growth of national output in the calendar year 1974 is likely to be 4¾ per cent, that is, increased by 1 per cent over the pre-budgetary estimate of 3¾ per cent.
