Vol. 272 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Public Service Vacancies.

21.

asked the Minister for the Public Service if he will ban advertisements which specify that vacancies in the public service are suitable for either men or women but not both.

A review to ascertain what previously restricted posts in the Civil Service could suitably be opened to both sexes has not been completed. It is clear that, by reason of their duties and the places of their employment, certain posts will have to be reserved to either sex in the future as in the past but I am anxious to have as few such restricted areas as possible.

Before any hitherto restricted grade is opened up to both sexes, it will be necessary to discuss the matter with the staff interests involved.
