Vol. 273 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Choice of Doctor Scheme.

8.

asked the Minister for Health if he will take steps to allow more doctors to participate in the choice of doctor scheme.

There are 1,125 doctors participating in the scheme at present, giving a ratio of one doctor to 920 eligible persons. It is not apparent, therefore, that there is, in general, a need for more doctors in the scheme. Where there is a need for a doctor in a specific area appropriate action to recruit one is taken, as a matter of course, by the health board concerned.
