Vol. 273 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sonic Booms.

15.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the steps that are being taken to measure sonic booms.

An international standard for the measurement of physical properties of sonic boom was issued by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) in March, 1973. This standard has been approved by Ireland. By arrangement with my Department, the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards have monitored several supersonic test flights by Concorde aircraft over the Irish sea since September, 1970. Routine monitoring of these test flights has recently been discontinued because of negative results. Monitoring can be resumed if circumstances so require.
