The number of recruits appointed to the force in the year 1st July, 1973, to the 30th June, 1974, was 331. As the Deputy is aware, a decision to increase the strength of the force by 500 was taken in January last and is in the process of being implemented. No decision to provide further increases has been taken but, of course, the matter is kept under constant review.
