Vol. 274 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Blarney (Cork) Industry.

53.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when it is expected that the new industry programmed for Blarney, County Cork, will commence; and the number of jobs it is expected to create.

I understand from the Industrial Development Authority that they have approved a project for Blarney which is expected to commence production within the next few months. It is estimated that between 100 and 120 people will be employed at full production.

Full details of the project will be announced shortly.

That is the prepared reply. But I understand, before coming into the House today, that there would be no objection to my naming the company, which is a German firm—Reinhold Noor A. G.—and that details, as I have said, will be announced in the near future. It will be somewhere between 100 and 120 people at full production and I think that full production can be reached fairly rapidly, in about a year.

Could the Minister indicate how many of that 100 to 120 will be male? Secondly, how many it is expected will be employed at the initial stages. I welcome the announcement and should appreciate it if I could get the name of that company from the Minister afterwards.

I can certainly give the Deputy the name of the company. In fact, my notes do not contain either the starting level of employment or the breakdown between female and male employment.

Could the Minister get them for me?

I will try.
