Vol. 274 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - EEC Agricultural Directive.

56.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will make a statement on the social and economic section of Directive 161; and when it is likely that he will implement it.

As the terms of the directive are generally available and as a copy of our submission to the EEC Commission was placed in the Library in March, I do not consider that any useful purpose would be served by making the detailed statement requested by the Deputy. Steps are being taken to arrange for the provision of socio-economic advice for the farming community.

Is the Minister not aware that some of the social ends of that directive are rather vague and that was why I asked him to make a statement to make clear what is really defined in it?

All the information is in the Library since March. It is there for the Deputy to read it in detail. It is quite long and it takes some time to go through it. One could not possibly do so at Question Time.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper?

Am I allowed to ask a supplementary question?

I have indicated that the remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper. It is not usual to allow questions after that. The time is up.

Very well. I shall be here tomorrow.
