Vol. 274 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballincollig Factory.

51.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his attention has been drawn to newspaper reports regarding the postponement of the development of a factory (details supplied) at Ballincollig, County Cork; the reasons for the postponement; the length of the expected delay; and whether it is hoped to have any alternative industry in the immediate future.

I am aware of the newspaper reports to which the Deputy refers. As was explained in a statement issued by the Industrial Development Authority earlier this month the promoters decided to postpone a decision on the project until early 1975 because of the current market recession in the UK and Europe for the products to be manufactured.

The authority have also announced that work has commenced on a large advance factory of 42,000 sq. ft. at Ballincollig as an incentive to the early establishment of an industry there.
