Vol. 275 No. 8

Ceisteanna——Questions. Oral Answers. - Visits Abroad.

143.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will give details of each visit to a foreign country undertaken since 31st March, 1974, including the overall cost of such visit and the advantage for this country arising therefrom.

The information requested by the Deputy is as follows: The Minister visited Vienna from 18th to 20th June, 1974, to attend a meeting of the European Council of Ministers of Transport. The cost involved was £344.87. The Minister also attended a meeting of the EEC Council in Luxembourg, from 26th to 28th June, 1974. The cost involved was £120.91. These two meetings dealt with transport matters of importance to this country.

The Minister visited Brussels, Paris and Frankfurt from 30th September to 3rd October, 1974, for the purpose of opening a new office for Bord Fáilte in Brussels and engaging in promotional activities on behalf of the board in Paris and Frankfurt. The cost of these journeys was borne by Bord Fáilte. The Minister is hopeful that these visits will generate increased tourist traffic to this country.
