Vol. 276 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sligo-Leitrim ESB Supply.

35.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware that many families in SligoLeitrim have had their homes wired and are waiting to have the elecricity supply connected; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to families in the Dromahair, Emlefad and Riverstown rural areas and in the Glenade and Kiltyclogher/Rossinver rural areas of counties Sligo and Leitrim.

I am informed by the ESB that development work in Dromahair rural area is due to be completed by the beginning of December and the remaining areas will be completed between January and the end of March, 1975. These areas are being developed at present under the final phase of the board's rural electrification scheme.

If the families concerned do not reside in the areas mentioned, the Deputy should forward names and addresses to the ESB for further investigation.

Is the Minister aware that many of the people concerned were hoping to have the supply connected before Christmas? I suggest that more publicity be given to the fact that a certificate must be obtained from a qualified electrician and sent to the ESB. Many people have been waiting for the ESB to call on them not knowing they were bound to furnish the certificate from a qualified electrician.

I am not sure that what the Deputy says is correct. I should have thought that people who are wiring their houses would be informed by the ESB about the necessity to have the necessary certificate. If the Deputy has any specific cases in mind perhaps he will let me have the names and addresses and I will get in touch with the ESB on the matter.
