Vol. 276 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Teachers' Allowances.

86.

asked the Minister for Education when arrears of allowances for principal teachers and of children's allowances will be paid to national school teachers for the period 1st April to 1st October, 1974.

87.

asked the Minister for Education when he intends to pay the allowance for a grade A post of responsibility to national school teachers for the period 1st April to 1st October, 1974; and the reason for the delay.

Mr. R. Burke

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 86 and 87 together.

The allowances due for the period 1st April to 30th September, 1974, were paid on 27th November, 1974, to teachers holding posts of responsibility in national schools.

Payment of children's allowances for the same period will be made during the first week of December, 1974.

In 1973 the responsibility allowances were paid on 8th November and children's allowances issued on 15th November.

The delay which occurred this year was caused by the extent to which the staff were involved in the introduction of a fully computerised system of payment of salaries to national teachers. The introduction of the system will enable these allowances to be paid monthly in future with basic salary, with effect from the monthly salary issue of October, 1974.
