Vol. 276 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyfermot (Dublin) School.

5.

asked the Minister for Education if a senior cycle school is to be provided at Ballyfermot, Dublin.

Mr. R. Burke

It is intended to provide a new senior cycle school in Ballyfermot.

Difficulty is being experienced in getting the agreement of all the parties concerned to an appropriate form of management of the school and it is proposed to have a further discussion of the matter at the next meeting of the Dublin advisory council for secondary school accommodation needs.

I am hopeful that, as a result of such discussion, satisfactory progress may be made towards the establishment of a school which will contribute significantly to the educational opportunities for the pupils of the area.

Is it true that a site has been agreed upon?

Mr. R. Burke

Yes, a site is available.

Is it also true that the money will be raised through Europe and not directly out of ministerial funds?

Mr. R. Burke

That depends entirely on the decisions made. The Deputy may like to know that a number of propositions have been made in regard to this. The one which the Minister favours is a community school type of management which does not find favour with some other groups in the area.

The Minister said he will have further meetings. Can he give me any idea when this matter might be resolved because there is a very serious lack of educational facilities in the area, which is being expanded still further?

Mr. R. Burke

I cannot give the Deputy any help on that one. It depends on when the people involved come to decisions in the matter.
