Vol. 276 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Direct Dialling.

40.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if telephone subscribers in North America and EEC countries may dial direct to Irish automatic telephones; and, if so, if he will state the code number that they should use.

Telephone subscribers in the Belfast and London areas can dial calls directly to subscribers in the Dublin (01) Area by dialing the code 0001 followed by the local Dublin telephone number.

Telephone subscribers in Luxembourg may dial calls directly to Irish subscribers connected to exchanges with subscriber trunk dialling (STD) facilities by dialling 00 353 followed by the national telephone number of the Irish subscriber concerned but omitting the initial digit "O". For example, to call (01) 748888 a Luxembourg subscriber would dial 00 353 1 748888. From the 1st January, 1975, Belgian subscribers will have similar dialling facilities to Ireland and will use the same access code 00 353.

It is expected that direct subscriber dialling to this country from the other EEC countries and from the USA and Canada will be provided as the necessary technical facilities are provided over the next few years.
