Vol. 276 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lifford Post Office Accommodation.

41.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if it is intended that the Prior School, Lifford, County Donegal, will be used as new accommodation for Lifford post office; and when it will be occupied.

The premises in question were acquired by my Department for use as a new manual telephone exchange but were taken over by the Department of Defence for military use. Work is in progress on the erection of the exchange on an alternative site.

It is not known for how long the Department of Defence will require the Prior School premises and no definite plans concerning their future have therefore been made.

My question refers to alternative accommodation or new accommodation to replace the existing accommodation for the post office at Lifford. The Parliamentary Secretary's reply refers only to telephone exchange accommodation. They are two different things.

My information is that there are no plans for the erection of a new post office at Lifford and that the only plan for that immediate area is for the telephone exchange which is being erected at the moment.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary check on that latter information to make sure it is correct and would he let me know in writing?

I will certainly check on the information I have given the Deputy and I will communicate with him.
