Vol. 276 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Health Expenditure.

58.

asked the Minister for Health the amount of public money per head of the population that was spent on health in the one-year period for which the latest figures are available.

Public expenditure per head of the population on health services in the year ended 31st March last was £46.77.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that in some European countries it is more than double that and does he not feel a greater proportion of our public expenditure should be devoted to health?

We had this out yesterday and several Deputies, including Fianna Fáil Deputies, referred to the fact that we had doubled the expenditure in some areas over the last two years.
