asked the Minister for Lands the number of applications which he has received to date from farmers in County Cavan who wish to avail of the farm retirement scheme; and the number of applications which have been finally processed.

(Cavan): Fifty-four applications were received from persons in County Cavan for the benefits of the farmers' retirement scheme but two were later withdrawn.

To date, 21 applications have been processed; of these, 16 applicants have been adjudged eligible and five have been refused. Of the 16 adjudged eligible, 13 wish to sell their holdings to the Land Commission and, in fact, negotiations on price have been successfully concluded in five cases; three applicants propose to deal direct with development farmers.
