Vol. 276 No. 13

Ceisteanna — Questions. Written Answers. - Community Care Programmes.

61.

asked the Minister for Health the action he proposes to take to increase the number of psychiatric social workers to make possible the development of the community care programmes of the health boards.

I accept the importance of the role of the psychiatric social worker in the expanding community psychiatric services and steps to improve numbers employed have already been taken. In 1966, there were two psychiatric social workers employed by health boards. In 1972 the number was 15 and this increased to 33 in 1973.
