Vol. 276 No. 13

Ceisteanna — Questions. Written Answers. - Medical Card Eligibility.

69.

asked the Minister for Health if social welfare payments are calculated as income in determining the eligibility of an applicant for a medical card.

Persons in receipt of certain social welfare pensions and allowances, such as the non-contributory pensions, have automatic entitlement to medical cards. On the other hand, the income from a contributory pension is counted when an assessment of eligibility is being made. Income from certain other allowances and grants, such as children's allowances, funeral and maternity grants, is not counted.
