Vol. 276 No. 13

Ceisteanna — Questions. Written Answers. - Unemployment Assistance.

70.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why unemployment assistance has not been paid to a person, name supplied, in County Offaly.

The person named claimed unemployment benefit on 19th December, 1973 and proved unemployment from that date to 20th February, 1974, inclusive. However, it was necessary to inquire into the insurability of his previous employment as it was stated to have been as a farm labourer on his mother's farm. In the meantime the person concerned was paid unemployment assistance at the rate of 65p a week, which was the appropriate rate having regard to his means derived from his own farm. On completion of the inquiries a deciding officer decided that the claimant's employment for the period from 5th March, 1973 to 15th December, 1973, was insurable and, accordingly, an adjusting payment representing the difference between the rates of unemployment benefit and unemployment assistance payable for the period 19th December, 1973, to 20th February, 1974, when the person concerned ceased to prove unemployment, was made. No unemployment benefit or assistance is outstanding in respect of this person's claim.

71.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when unemployment assistance will be paid to a person in County Kildare, name supplied.

It is assumed that the Deputy's question refers to the claim to unemployment benefit made by the person named on 3rd December, 1974. The claimant was advised on last Thursday, 12th December, 1974, that the benefit due was available for collection at his local post office.
