Vol. 277 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Monaghan Factory.

42.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will ensure that the IDA take immediate action to find an industry for a vacant factory premises (details supplied) at Monaghan.

I have been informed by the Industrial Development Authority that the vacant factory premises referred to by the Deputy are on their list of available industrial premises and that a number of industrialists have already been brought to Monaghan by the authority to inspect them. To date, no industrialist has expressed an interest in the premises. The IDA will continue with their efforts to interest industrialists in establishing an industry there.

Would the Minister not agree that because of the drop-off in industrial employment in that area it is vital that efforts be made to have the men concerned re-employed?

I agree but I think that the IDA are aware of the circumstances and that there is a good case to be made in this instance. I am happy to pass on my commendation of what the Deputy has said.
