Vol. 277 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - TV Licences.

15.

(Dublin Central) asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of television licences issued in 1974 for monochrome sets and colour sets.

498,800 licences were issued for monochrome sets in 1974 and 44,200 for colour sets.

(Dublin Central): Could the Minister give any indication as to whether there was a reduction in monochrome licences due to the fact that there was an increase in colour television sets?

The total issues represent an increase of 4.3 per cent on sales in 1973. I am giving the Deputy the information I have available. I have not got the comparative figures in the way the Deputy wants them but, if he would like to put down a question, I will get the information for him.

(Dublin Central): Would the Minister have any information as to what part of the country these applications are from? I was wondering if there is a bigger proportion of colour television licences for the east coast as against other parts of the country.

If the Deputy cares to put down a question, or if he would like to get this information in writing, I shall be very happy to provide it. I do not have it with me at the moment.
