Vol. 278 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Consulate in San Francisco.

110.

asked the Minister for Finance if the consulate in San Francisco is now considered to be adequate.

Mr. Kenny

I have no information which would indicate that the accommodation occupied by the Consulate-General in San Francisco is other than adequate.

They took up occupation of a separate office with a greater square footage a few years ago. I think it was awaiting sanction of the Minister for Finance when the Parliamentary Secretary took office.

Mr. Kenny

The new office premises for the Consulate-General were taken on a three-year lease on 1st October, 1971 as the existing accommodation was inadequate. Last year the Department of Foreign Affairs asked us to renew the lease for a further three years. We have no indication that the premises or furnishings are other than adequate, and the fact that the Department of Foreign Affairs asked us to renew the lease must be regarded as confirmation that they are satisfactory.
