Vol. 278 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

3.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he will approve the proposals for the civil works in connection with the Ballivor sewerage scheme, County Meath.

These proposals are being sanctioned.

For how long were those proposals in the Department?

They came in originally in November, 1963.

When were the last ones submitted?

The proposals have been going backwards and forwards since 1963 but when I became Minister I asked to have the matter hurried up and I am glad to tell the Deputy that I have done now what should have been done 12 years ago.

It took the Minister two years to deal with the matter.

It would never have been dealt with if Fianna Fáil had remained in office.

4.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he will sanction the proposed sewerage scheme for Ballycasheen East, Killarney, County Kerry.

I am not yet in a position to say when I will give my decision with regard to the proposals submitted for this scheme, which are at present under examination in my Department.

5.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will sanction the payment of a contribution from Galway County Council towards the excessive costs of providing a group water scheme at Dooras, Kinvara, County Galway.

On 6th February, 1975, my Department informed Galway County Council that no objection would be raised to the council making a special contribution from revenue towards the provision of a group water supply scheme at Dooras, Kinvara, County Galway.

6.

asked the Minister for Local Government the grants that are available to farmers in the Killorgue and Crevelea areas of County Leitrim who are organising a group water supply scheme which will serve the needs of 300 families.

There is a proposed group water supply scheme to serve approximately 130 houses in the Killorgue and Crevelea areas of County Leitrim. The design has been approved by both my Department and Leitrim County Council subject to confirmation of the adequacy of the proposed source and the submission of details of treatment necessary to ensure that the quality of the water will be satisfactory.

If this information is received and approved, the group would be advised to obtain quotations for the necessary materials and the carrying out of the work so that firm costings could be determined. Until firm costings were prepared it would not be possible to indicate the amount of the grants available.
