Vol. 279 No. 5

Written Answers. - Vocational Schools Boards of Management.

97.

asked the Minister for Education why he recommended to vocational education committees that teachers should be excluded from full voting participation on the proposed boards of management of vocational schools.

I presume that what the Deputy has in mind is that a principal teacher or vice-principal who acts as secretary to a board of management has no voting rights. This is in line with the procedure adopted for community schools. The Deputy is, no doubt, aware that a teacher who is a member of a vocational education committee may, by virtue of such membership, be elected to serve on a board of management with full voting rights but may not serve on the board of management of the school in which he is employed.

98.

asked the Minister for Education whether any consultations were held between him and religious authorities during 1974 concerning the suggested terms of reference for boards of management in vocational schools.

I did not have consultations with religious authorities during 1974 concerning the suggested terms of reference for boards of management in vocational schools.
