Vol. 279 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Slaughter Premium Scheme.

33.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is aware of the threatened loss of employment and general chaos in many abattoirs arising from the inability of management to obtain the service of veterinary officers in connection with the slaughter premium scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am not so aware. A number of local authority veterinary inspectors withdrew certain services they were performing pending implementation of a remuneration award recommended for them by the Local Government Staff Negotiations Board. The matter was reported by the board to my Department and has now been disposed of so far as the Department are concerned.
