Vol. 279 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Pier.

38.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will arrange for repairs and extensions to the pier at West End, Bere Island, County Cork, which is in a most dangerous condition.

My Department has asked the Office of Public Works to furnish an engineering report and estimates of costs in respect of proposals for improvement works to the pier at the West End, Bere Island, County Cork. Until that report is received and examined I cannot say what works may be approved for that landing place in the fisheries interest.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary say when this report was requested from the Office of Public Works?

The report was requested on 24th June, 1974.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary not consider it a very long delay on the part of the Office of Public Works? Would he ask them to submit a report as a matter of extreme urgency in view of the dangerous condition of the pier at West End, Bere Island, County Cork?

I am requesting the Office of Public Works for this report because I am particularly interested in the development at Bere Island. I can assure the Deputy that there will be no undue delay so far as I am concerned or indeed so far as my Department are concerned.
