Vol. 279 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Sports Field.

49.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will provide a site for a sports field on the holding now being acquired by the Land Commission at Pilmore, Youghal, County Cork.

(Cavan): Possession of the property referred to has not yet passed to the Land Commission. The question of providing a site for a playing pitch will be fully considered by the Land Commission in connection with the division of the lands.

In the event of there being no suitable site on this holding, would the Minister reconsider representations that were made to him about a site on a nearby holding which has been already acquired by the Land Commission?

(Cavan): Had the Deputy a question down about that previously?

I had, yes.

(Cavan): I have not the information about that site before me, but my recollection is that that holding is a very small one and that there were a number of very deserving congests in the immediate vicinity. Speaking from memory I think there were 14 acres and there were three smallholders to be provided for.

I am asking the Minister if, in the event of there being no suitable site in this parcel of land, he would reconsider making some kind of a deal with the proposed allottees of the Power estate, where there is a suitable site, in fact the only suitable site within miles of the area?

(Cavan): The question of making a deal with the allottees on the other estate would be much more a local matter of getting good will and agreement, than it would be for my Department. I can tell the Deputy that in this estate there are only 28 acres, 2 roods and 3 perches involved, and I am told that there are six local congests and that three of them are seeking development status, so it is not an easy problem.
