Vol. 279 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Social Welfare Legislation.

98.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he intends to initiate amending legislation to eliminate discrimination which exists at present against women in relation to certain social welfare benefits; and, if so, when.

Of 15 recommendations made by the Commission on the Status of Women in regard to the subject matter of the Deputy's question, eight have been fully and three partly implemented. Of the remaining four recommendations one would, if implemented, worsen the position of widows by importing a condition of age or of responsibility for dependants; the other three are still under consideration.
