asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will consider granting pensions to retired part-time auxiliary postmen.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Auxiliary Postmen's Pensions.
Mr. R. Burke
The introduction of a scheme of pensions for retired part-time officers of the public service, such as auxiliary postmen, is a matter for consideration by the Minister for the Public Service.
When I tabled this question two years ago I received a similar reply although on this occasion the Minister is passing it on to another Minister. Would the Minister give an assurance that a favourable solution to this will be arrived at within a reasonable time?
Mr. R. Burke
On the point about passing it over to another Minister, in reply to a question in 1967 the matter was stated to be a matter for consideration by the then Minister for Finance. I insist that this is a matter for the Minister for the Public Service and the Deputy's point will be drawn to the attention of that Minister.
Will the Minister pass the question on?
Mr. R. Burke
The Deputy has that line of action open to him.
That line of action is not open to me because I must wait a further six months before I can put down this question again.
