Vol. 280 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - P and T Watchmen.

58.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if watchmen employed by his Department participated in the recent 10 per cent cost-of-living pay increases; and, if not, why.

Mr. R. Burke

The pay rates of watchmen in my Department have been increased by 10 per cent under the cost-of-living "threshold" provision of the 1974 National Agreement, with effect from 1st March, 1975. The increased rates were introduced for different groups of watchmen at different times, but all watchmen are now being paid at the increased rates and arrears have been paid where appropriate.

Could the Minister tell me when the last of those increases was paid because quite a number of people have not received it up to the present?

Mr. R. Burke

They should have got it because it is some weeks now, at least a week, since they were paid.
