Vol. 280 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Soya Bean Products.

68.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if products manufactured from soya beans are likely to be available soon on the Irish market.

A number of soya bean products are already available on the Irish market. I am not aware what other products made from soya beans are likely to become available here.

Has synthetic beef ever come on the market over here? I understand that in America they have synthetic beef made from the soya bean.

I could not exclude the possibility that a very small quantity in health food shops or vegetarian shops may have done, but on no significant scale has it come on the Irish market.
