Vol. 280 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Social Welfare Pensions.

6.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why a retirement pension has not been paid to a person (name supplied) in County Offaly.

The person concerned has not been insurably employed in this country since 1953 and has no pension entitlement on his Irish insurance alone. By reason of his employment in Britain, however, his pension entitlements on his Irish and British insurances fall for determination under EEC regulations. Investigation of his position in each country under those regulations is in progress.

7.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why an old age pension has not been paid to a person (name supplied) in County Offaly who applied last December.

A pension book at the full pension rate, £8.85, and all arrears of pension due have been issued to the person concerned. The delay in issuing the pension book was due partly to the illness of the local social welfare officer and partly to necessary inquiries in relation to the disposal of capital and the transfer of land.

8.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why a retirement pension has not been paid to a person (name supplied) in County Offaly.

On his insurance record under the insurance number given by the person concerned on his claim for retirement pension he did not satisfy the contribution condition for pension which requires a claimant to have entered insurance before reaching age 55. As a result of information received from him on 21st April in response to an inquiry by my Department, an earlier insurance record, under another number, which serves to qualify him for pension, has since been traced. He has been awarded pension at the rate of £19.40 a week from 6th February, 1975 increased to £23.85 a week from 3rd April, 1975. Appropriate pension books were issued to him on 25th April, 1975.

9.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why an old-age non-contributory pension has not been paid to a person (name supplied) in County Laois who applied last January.

The claim of the person concerned was made on 19th February, 1975, and a pension order book at the rate of £1.85 a week with effect from 4th April, 1975, the date from which the pension became payable, issued on 24th April, 1975. The delay was due to the fact that particulars of the claimant's county council pension required by the social welfare officer were not received until 24th April, 1975.
