Vol. 280 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prices Commission Report.

27.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce why the February report of the National Prices Commission which was submitted to him on 4th March, 1975, was not published until 2nd May, 1975.

There is no requirement that the monthly report be published by a particular date. The letter accompanying the report bears the date 4th March but, in fact, the report was not submitted until 13th March and was an advance stencilled copy. The provision of printed copies of a report containing 231 pages and the arrangements for publication take some time. The report also raised a number of issues of unusual complexity. The timelag in publication is, however, regretted and every effort will be made to minimise delay in future.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the March report was published exactly one week after the February report and the two volumes are approximately the same size?

Why was there such an excessive delay, therefore, in relation to the February report?

Because there were several issues of unusual complexity in the February report which had to be considered particularly by the Government.

The CIE fares?

Among other things.
