Vol. 280 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mallow (Cork) Employment.

1.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the rapidly worsening unemployment situation in Mallow, County Cork where approximately 320 persons are now on the local employment exchange register, he will, in conjunction with the IDA, relieve this position by providing, as a matter of urgency, one of the new industries promised for the Mallow industrial estate.

I am aware of the employment position in Mallow. The Industrial Development Authority are completing construction of an advance factory of 24,000 square feet on the Mallow industrial estate and are vigorously promoting the availability of this factory for industry. The selection of a location for any industry is, of course, primarily a matter for the industrialist concerned.

A factory already under construction in Mallow for a specific new industry will employ 60, mainly men. It is expected to go into production in August next.
