Vol. 281 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Salary Scales.

11.

asked the Minister for Education the bases on which the differential between secondary school salary scales and those of preparatory and ex-preparatory colleges are calculated.

Mr. R. Burke

The preparatory college system was discontinued as from 1961. Teachers who served in these colleges and are now employed in other schools are paid basic salary and allowances in accordance with the common basic salary scale payable to all teachers, but receive in addition an amount equal to the Gaeltacht grant payable to secondary schools teachers, teachers serving in schools in the Gaeltacht in which all subjects are taught through the medium of Irish together with a special allowance of £150 per annum by way of compensation for the difference between the inclusive scale of salary formerly paid to preparatory college teachers and the salary scale of secondary school teachers.
