Vol. 281 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Schools.

28.

asked the Minister for Education if he will outline his plans, such as the opening date etc., for the new primary schools in Carrigaline, County Cork.

Mr. R. Burke

It is proposed to proceed as soon as possible with the building of a new 16 classroom primary school for girls and, at a later date, to provide a second 16 classroom school for boys in Carrigaline, County Cork.

When satisfactory documentary evidence of title to the school site is furnished, my Department will sanction a grant-in-aid towards the erection of the girls school.

Could I ask the Minister if in fact the site and the percentage grant has been decided by his Department?

Mr. R. Burke

Agreement has been reached with the manager as to the amount of the local contribution.

Could the Minister say when this agreement was reached?

Mr. R. Burke

Only a few weeks ago.

Would the Minister agree that in a communication to me, he did not submit this information although it was submitted to a Government Deputy?

Mr. R. Burke

I am not so aware.

The position is that I asked by way of letter for information as to the up-to-date position in regard to Carrigaline school and as you replied to the question originally, I was not given the position in regard to the grant, although it was known in the area prior to my receiving the letter and I resent that situation.

Mr. R. Burke

Could the Deputy give me the rate?

I certainly will.

Mr. R. Burke

Because I regret that that should happen.

And I will give you a copy of the letter.
